Motivation
The importance of Intermodal transport within the transport market is still growing. Not only because of the autonomous growth of world (container)trade, but also due to increasing congestion on the road. At the same time fuel and toll-costs are rising. Moreover, Intermodal transport is an environmental way of transport. A last development stimulating changes in further growth of Intermodal transport is the ongoing liberalisation of the European rail network.
Many companies do not have sufficient specific knowledge of transport by rail or just not enough volume to set up their own company train. Shuttlewise has the expertise and contacts in the rail transport market and wants to link parties for a certain connection, so a structural new container-shuttle can be developed.
