Intermodal operator Shuttlewise will launch a new train-shuttle between German city Krefeld and Mortara (Italy) as from January 9th. This service will have a 5 times per week frequency and can be seen as a strategic completion to the already existing daily connection between Rotterdam and Mortara.

Traction of this container-shuttle will be done by SBB Cargo International that has already a lot of experience on the axis Germany – Italy. Their end-to-end services provided from a single source are already well proven.  Local shunting in Krefeld will be done by Rheinhafen Krefeld, and in Mortara by Serfer.

The Krefeld Container Terminal (KCT) is a flexible terminal with quick turnaround time for drivers in the overcrowded Ruhr-area. It can handle all different types of units and is permitted to handle also dangerous goods and waste.

Terminal Intermodale di Mortara (TIMO) is the terminal in Italy. Based at 50 km from Milano and already hosting the current service from Rotterdam so customers can use Mortara as a hub for their activities.

With this new service Shuttlewise is reacting on the demand of their customers to extend their current network with a shuttle on the strategic axle from Ruhr area to Milano area.

This service is a cooperation between initiator GTS, a Bari-based logistic service provider with own locomotives, wagons and containers, and Dutch intermodal operator Shuttlewise.

GTS is already running own trains between Bari-Bologna, between Bari-Piacenza and between Piacenza-Zeebrugge. Next to that they have a fleet of over 1.500 containers 45ft running between the axle Greece – Italy – France – Benelux – UK and Ireland.

Shuttlewise is already running a service between Rotterdam-Mortara and between Venlo-Mortara. Shuttlewise has no own equipment, but acts like a neutral organizer of their services.

With this co-operation GTS and Shuttlewise want to further develop the axle Rotterdam – Eastern Italy with easy connection to the south of Italy.
